The European Locksmith Federation was founded in 1984 with its office located in Helsinki. It is an umbrella group for national locksmith associations throughout Europe representing over 11,000 locksmiths to promote cooperation amongst the members.
ELF strives to promote technical education and to represent locksmiths with the major lock and key manufacturers as well as governments to promote standards and licensing. ELF holds an annual convention in different countries with a trade show, educational classes, social events for members to participate in. One of two annual board meetings takes place for ELF directors to discuss the latest trends in the lock industry and to share information from their respective countries.
